Our Supported Short-Term Accommodation (SSTA) program provides a stable environment for individuals in our community experiencing sudden homelessness or facing barriers that prevent them from securing meaningful tenancy.
Through this program, we aim to reduce homelessness, improve mental health, promote financial independence, encourage positive tenancy behavior, enhance overall quality of life, and increase community involvement. Our Housing Navigator works closely with each guest, offering tailored support and guidance to help them achieve their goal of securing long-term housing.

We are not a rental property or an emergency housing provider; instead, our Supported Short-Term Accommodation (SSTA) program offers a temporary, structured living environment for individuals who meet our criteria and are committed to working toward long-term housing stability. A variety of activities take place on our property throughout the week and weekends. As a result, we cannot offer the same level of quiet living as a traditional tenancy, and guests are expected to be flexible and adaptable to the dynamic environment.
Due to limited availability, stays are for a maximum of 12 weeks. During this time, housing participants are considered guests at Wai Ora and are expected to actively seek permanent housing while engaging with our support team and other agencies. Our program is designed to provide stability, guidance, and practical assistance, but it is not a long-term housing solution.
We maintain clear eligibility criteria to ensure our accommodation is best suited for those who will benefit from our support.
Referrals come from various community organizations, and we also welcome self-enquiries from individuals who believe they meet our criteria, which will be provided upon request.
Community living involves being considerate of one another’s safety and the shared living environment. Most guests are working through their own challenges, and it’s important that everyone respects these boundaries. Certain breaches of the Housing Agreement may result in withdrawal from the program.
